When my nephew was little, he would feign a stomach ache and when asked what was wrong he’d exclaim, “I tink a cookie make it better”. It was charming, hilarious, adorable and kind of wise for such a little guy. Let’s face it a treat can often cure what ails you.
As an adult a cookie doesn’t always cut it and sometimes only a cocktail, or four, will do.
It’s hard to be a newlywed in a construction zone. There are workers here from 8am until 4pm leaving no room for coffee together, snuggles, or privacy. We’re newlyweds, where’s the intimacy? Does it sound like I’m saying we want to run naked through the house? Sorry for that visual! All I mean is that we left the lovely, glowing, romantic bubble of our honeymoon and were shoved back to reality under these circumstances. It’s been difficult. I miss my hubby.
So, to combat the stress and reconnect, we had a mini date down at the lodge recently and enjoyed these lovely huckleberry mules. They are delicious and just what the doctor ordered. Of course, we needed to recreate them at home, and lucky you I’m sharing the recipe. Huckleberry mules, candlelight and quiet conversation equals intimacy, nudity optional; proving that sometimes only a cocktail can make it better.
Huckleberry Mule
- Copper mug recommended but not required
- 2 fluid ounces vodka (no wimpy drinks in this house)
- 1/2 fluid ounce lime juice (more if you like it really limey like I do)
- ice cubes
- 1/4 cup ginger beer (ginger ale is not recommended; we recommend Bundaberg or Cock and Bull)
- 1/4 cup huckleberry soda (we recommend Jackson Hole High Mountain Huckleberry Soda)
- 1 lime wedge for garnish
- Pour vodka and lime juice into a mug; add ice cubes, ginger beer and huckleberry soda. Stir to combine.
- Drop a lime wedge into the mug for garnish.
