With the chaos of our renovation nearly complete, it seems like one of the first tasks I’m looking forward to is organizing my studio space for productivity and fresh inspiration. Just kidding, looking forward to is a total lie and far too optimistic for my actual feelings about this task. The dust and disarray have been pushing me into a Monica-like melt down. Remember the one where she asks, “where will all the ribbons go” and you’ll have an idea of my mental state. Obviously, it’s the stain fumes making me a little crazy. Good thing I have a very patient husband who puts up with my crazy moments. Right honey?
Luckily, the space had been set up and working before the renovation, so I have a clearer idea of how I want and need the space to be organized. It is tiny, I have a lot of things that need to be stored and organized to keep my creativity flowing but trust me all ribbons, beads, substrates, and glass will have a home.
For me, this reorganization begins with cleaning out the cobwebs and endless amounts of construction dust. This makes me want to descend into a childlike tantrum! Well, I’m going to suck it up, put a good playlist on shuffle and just start scrubbing. I think I’ll channel my inner Marie Kondo in the hopes that the tidying will spark joy and creativity. Am I fooling anyone with that statement? There will be no joy until all the cleaning is done and I want to skip directly to the joy part.
Other than my spa like bath, my studio is a peaceful sanctuary. I’ve missed it terribly. The good news is that with a little pre-planning, a few small tweaks, and the help of my wonderful new husband, I will be able to design a workspace that is once again functional and fun.
